Health Valley Netherlands is a partner Interreg North-West Europe programme NWE0100082 'Scaling-up virtual rehabilitation in the NWE-region- Scale-Up4Rehab', approved and funded by the European Commission.

Rehabilitation has an important role in improving the health and well-being of the population and the overall efficiency and sustainability of the health systems. The ageing of the population will increase the number of persons who need rehabilitation, while there is a shortage of healthcare staff. Currently, access to rehabilitation is uneven both between and within countries. Technology offers the possibility to provide efficient care and access to dedicated rehabilitation care regardless of the location of a patient. Different forms of rehabilitation therapy using virtual technologies are already taking place. However, these digital applications merely are used in a local setting and economies of scale are not exploited. Transnational cooperation is needed to reach these economies of scale, bringing the digital transformation of the rehabilitation sector to a next level. In order to ensure equal access to rehabilitation care and foster the resilience of health systems, this project will make an important step forwards in the digitalization of the rehabilitation sector, being the first in building an open NWE virtual rehabilitation ‘clinic’, through which existing virtual rehabilitation therapies will be scaled up. 8 regional pilots (NL/DE/IR/LU), which act as showcases, will be implemented in which rehabilitation professionals in various healthcare settings integrate virtual rehabilitation in their daily practice. Additional, capacity building activities will be carried out. 

The main outputs: 

  • A running open virtual rehabilitation clinic including a minimum of 12 virtual rehabilitation interventions 
  • 8 finalized pilots in which rehabilitation practitioners have used the virtual rehabilitation clinic to integrate several virtual rehabilitation interventions in their daily practice and have reached a minimum of 280 patients in their rehabilitation at home
  • A package of capacity building activities for patients, healthcare practitioners and enterprises.

Revalidatie speelt een belangrijke rol bij het verbeteren van de gezondheid en het welzijn van de bevolking, evenals de algehele efficiëntie en duurzaamheid van gezondheidssystemen. Door de vergrijzing van de bevolking zal het aantal personen dat revalidatie nodig heeft toenemen, terwijl er een tekort is aan medisch personeel. Momenteel is de toegang tot revalidatie zowel tussen als binnen landen ongelijk. Technologie biedt de mogelijkheid om efficiënte zorg te bieden en toegang te geven tot gespecialiseerde revalidatiezorg, ongeacht de locatie van een patiënt. Verschillende vormen van revalidatietherapie met behulp van virtuele technologieën vinden al plaats. Echter, deze digitale toepassingen worden alleen lokaal gebruikt en er wordt geen gebruik gemaakt van schaalvoordelen. Transnationale samenwerking is nodig om deze schaalvoordelen te bereiken en de digitale transformatie van de revalidatiesector naar een hoger niveau te tillen. Om gelijke toegang tot revalidatiezorg te waarborgen en de veerkracht van gezondheidssystemen te bevorderen, zal dit project een belangrijke stap zetten in de digitalisering van de revalidatiesector door als eerste een open virtuele revalidatie 'kliniek' in de NWE-regio te bouwen, waar bestaande virtuele revalidatietherapieën worden opgeschaald. Er zullen 8 regionale pilots (NL/DE/IR/LU) worden geïmplementeerd als showcases, waarin revalidatieprofessionals in verschillende zorginstellingen virtuele revalidatie integreren in hun dagelijkse praktijk. Daarnaast zullen er capaciteitsopbouwactiviteiten worden uitgevoerd.

  • Een operationele open virtuele revalidatiekliniek met minimaal 12 virtuele revalidatie-interventies
  • 8 afgeronde pilots waarin revalidatiebeoefenaars de virtuele revalidatiekliniek hebben gebruikt om verschillende virtuele revalidatie-interventies te integreren in hun dagelijkse praktijk en minimaal 280 patiënten thuis hebben bereikt met hun revalidatie
  • Een pakket van capaciteitsopbouwactiviteiten voor patiënten, zorgverleners en bedrijven.
