Description

In Europe alone, an estimated 4 to 10 per cent of the population suffers from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). It is a progressive lung condition that significantly impacts patients' quality of life and life expectancy. The European RE-SAMPLE (REal-time data monitoring for Shared, Adaptive, Multi-domain and Personalised prediction and decision making for Long-term Pulmonary care Ecosystems) project aims to empower these patients with COPD in self-care by developing a multidisciplinary, adaptive virtual companionship program and drive structural change in healthcare together with patients, healthcare professionals, scientists, policy makers, and industry.

Over the course of four years (2021-2025), RE-SAMPLE will work to transform the healthcare journey of patients with COPD, and to set a standard of care for patients suffering from complex chronic conditions (CCC). RE-SAMPLE will use real-world data (RWD) to monitor COPD symptoms beyond scheduled medical check-ups. Such information will give doctors, caregivers and patients a unique insight into common, day-to-day triggers that can lead to health complications. The data and analyses will feed into the development of personalized treatment and a virtual companionship program. One task within this RE-SAMPLE project is to assess the acceptance of this virtual companionship programme. Before we can perform this evaluation, we need to know what the determinants of acceptance are for these kind of programs (i.e., digital interventions using mobile applications, including data collection, symptom monitoring, virtual coaching) and for this target population. To gather this knowledge a literature study needs to be performed. Based on this literature study a research model will be developed.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for an enthusiastic student with a background in health science, movement science, physiotherapy, technical medicine or affinity with the evaluation of personalized health technology or the target population. Speaking Dutch is not required. In addition, for the duration of the bachelor project, you will be part of the RE-SAMPLE consortium.
