RRD is part of the Roessingh Concern, which further consists of the Roessingh, Centre for Rehabilitation, Roessingh Rehabilitation Technique, rdgKompagne and Roessingh Arbeid. This combination of rehabilitation treatment, scientific research and commercial activities is unique in the Netherlands.

The institute has a flat organisation and is led by a managing director who is supported by the management team. The shares are held by the RRD foundation. An advisory board, which includes the Roessingh, Centre for Rehabilitation and the University of Twente, helps RRD give direction to its policy and safeguard the quality and focus of the research programme as well as its matching with external parties. The advisory board also plays an important role in safeguarding the valorisation activities of the research institute.
Rehabilitation technology and telemedicine are the most important focus of the research. RRD has five areas of expertise:

  • Robotics and assistive technology
  • Motion analysis
  • Monitoring and coaching
  • Design, implementation and evaluation
  • Gaming
