| Virturob Knowledge of virtual reality and robotics |
The Virturob project obtains knowledge of virtual reality and robotics . This knowledge is used for the realization of a technological system for training of the disturbed arm and hand function of patients with a neurological disease, such as cerebrovascular accident (CVA), spinal cord injury (SCI) or traumatic brain injury (TBI). With the acquired know-how Virturob makes use of the state of the art insights in motor control, motor (re) learning and neurological recovery.

The objective of the project is to acquire technological knowledge of Virtual Reality and Robotics and to make it available in a form that can be used for the development of training of the impaired arm and hand function of people with neurological disorders. In more detail the project gathers information about the effect of different feedback conditions during motor learning of the arm and about the influence of cognitive dual tasks during the performance of a motor task. Also a robotic device will be build for the training of the impaired arm for stroke survivors.
The participants in the Virturob project are three knowledge institutes: Roessingh Research and Development (RRD) in Enschede, University of Twente (UT) in Enschede, and the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre (RUN MC) and two commercial companies: BAAT medical engineering in Hengelo and Re-lion BV in Enschede. BAAT medical provides and develops the robotic systems. Re-Lion designs Virtual Environments for usage in rehabilitation therapy.
